We believe that the Bible is inspired, relevant, and without error
The Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired and is God’s revelation of Himself to people. Therefore, All Scripture is truth, without error, and is relevant and applicable for Christian conduct today. All Christian opinion, conduct, and belief must be held to the standards set forth in Scripture.
We believe that there is only one everlasting and true God
God is the infinitely Holy Ruler and Creator of the Universe. He is personal, spiritual, all powerful, all knowing, the Redeemer and Preserver of His people. God reveals Himself to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; three distinct persons, one being, one nature. Our highest praises, adoration, and obedience belong solely to Him.
We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, truly God, and truly, perfectly, human
Christ took on human nature and completely identified Himself with humans, yet did not sin. Christ personally obeyed God's divine law, lived a perfect life without sin and with full obedience to the will of God, and as such, made Himself a sufficient sacrifice for the sins of His people. He made provision for the redemption of His people from sin through His substitutionary death on the cross, and His resurrection after three days. Christ is now exalted at the right hand of God where He is the One Mediator, and the reconciliation, between God and His people. Christ will return in power and glory to judge both the living and the dead to complete His redemptive mission.
We believe that the Holy Spirit is the divine Spirit of God
The Holy Spirit inspired men to write the Scriptures, and enables people to understand them. The Holy Spirit draws people to Christ, and indwells believers at the moment of salvation. He is the guide and comforter for every believer, and also empowers each believer with spiritual gifts intended to serve the Body of Christ. He is the assurance of redemption.
We believe that Humans are created in the image of God, but cursed with a sin nature
Humans were created by God, in His image, innocent and without sin. Through the temptation of Satan, and in an act of free choice and rebellion, humans sinned against God and cursed every person with a sin nature. This sin nature inclines all humans towards sin, and because of this, every human is a transgressor of God's divine law. As transgressors, all humans deserve God's wrath and eternal punishment. In God's infinite grace, love, and mercy, He has provided a substitution for this punishment in His Son, Jesus Christ. Through the sacrifice and resurrection of Christ, any who believe in Him can be restored to fellowship with God and redeemed from sin and punishment. Since all humans are created in the image of God, every person of every race is worthy of respect and Christian love.
We believe that Salvation only comes from repenting and believing in the one, true Christ
There is only one way to be saved, and only "one way to Heaven." Salvation is offered to any person who repents and believes in the true Christ, the eternal Son of God, truly God, truly and perfectly human, the Savior who sacrificed Himself on the cross as a substitution in place of His people, resurrecting on the third day and making salvation possible. At the moment of salvation, people become new creations in Christ, with new hearts and minds centered on God's will. All believers are justified by faith through the grace of God, changing each person from a transgressor, to a child of God, innocent of all past, present, and future sin. All believers are set apart for God's purposes, and are developed, disciplined, and progressed by the Holy Spirit towards Christlikeness. All of this builds towards the final state of each believer, called glorification.
We believe that The Church is the necessary, visible, Body of Christ, governed by His laws
A church is a congregation of baptized believers that serves the Lord in in at least five functions. These functions are Teaching, Service, Evangelism, Worship, and Fellowship. The church operates under the Lordship of Christ, governed by His laws, with the mission of sharing His gospel with the world. The BSU is not a church, and is certainly not a replacement for the church. The BSU is an extension of the church, with the same mission, serving the Lord with the same five functions. Students are encouraged to attend and serve in a local church, as well as the BSU.
We believe that all followers of Christ are called to Evangelism and Missions under the Great Commission
Jesus commanded His disciples to share His gospel with the world, to make disciples who make disciples, to evangelize, baptize, and teach through discipleship. Christ has commanded that His gospel reach the world. This means that no matter the vocation, education, or location, all believers are privileged with sharing the gospel and discipling others in all situations that the Lord provides.
